Truth to be told, digital games has a big potential to be more than just a medium of entertainment. They can also serve as a platform to educate and spread awareness to the masses. That is indeed the very core of AMD’s Changing The Game education initiative which has just arrived in Malaysia - the first country outside United States to receive it.
The program aims to spread the interest of science, technology, engineering and math together with social issues awareness among students through game development. Here in Malaysia, this is done through AMD’s supports of the Malaysian Cybergames Fest 2010 – a collaborative effort between the company, Cyberview Sdn. Bhd. and Multimedia Development Corporation – in total of RM 370,000 (USD 100,000).
Targeted at primary school children, the touring digital games showcase and game development workshop has just made its first stop in Perak yesterday. Next up will be Johor, Selangor/Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, Pulau Pinang, Pahang and Kelantan before reaching its finale, scheduled to take place in July 2010.
If you wonder how the event looks like, do check out this short video taken during its first stop yesterday. For more information about AMD Foundation and its Changing The Game efforts, click on its official website (
